Works implemented by the Public Works Authority, in addition to construction works, include complete equipping of the new operation rooms. The new Surgery Building is equipped with advanced systems that are used for the first time in the operating rooms in Qatar, making it one of the leading countries to use these techniques, such as the ability to use radiography during surgical procedures to ensure the success of the surgical intervention and contain or avoid complications. The project’s elements have been designed according to the latest cutting-edge medical devices in the building, which required the provision of electrical and mechanical vents and other equipment needed by those devices.

During the design and implementation of the General Surgery Building, the authority considered the environmental dimension and construction sustainability, being part of the elements taken into account in all projects implemented by Ashghal. To achieve sustainability and reduce the consumption of energy and natural resources, the authority used local and international sustainability assessment systems, such as the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) to promote the “Green Buildings” concept in order to meet the current needs without affecting the environment and resources in the future.

The total cost of the General Surgery Building is approximately 900 million Qatari Riyals, and it is part of the buildings projects implemented by Ashghal in addition to many other health facilities projects and primary healthcare centres in several areas across Qatar.
