Ashghal participates in the accompanying exhibition of Qatar International Medical Congress 2016

The Public Works Authority participated in the accompanying exhibition of the Qatar International Medical Congress 2016, which is hosted in Doha from 18 to 20 May 2016 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, under the patronage of His Excellence Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

In its second edition, the medical congress represents an important opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among participates from inside and outside Qatar; it highlights the latest innovations and medical technologies in the healthcare field, which can support human development and achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

In its pavilion, the authority showcased a number of the most important healthcare projects that Ashghal is implementing, in addition to a number of models for the new designs of the hospitals and health centres implemented by the Public Works Authority. The authority also distributed a number of publications that familiarise the community with the authority’s projects, particularly healthcare projects. H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohammad Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, visited the authority's pavilion and was received by Mr. Abdullah Saad Al Saad, Manager of Public Relations and Communications Department, as well as engineers of the health buildings section at the Buildings Affairs of the Public Works Authority. Eng. Tamader Al Malki gave an explanation to H.E. the Minister about the projects showcased in the pavilion.

The participation of the Public Works Authority in this important international event comes in the framework of strengthening awareness about the key role Ashghal is playing in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, to provide the best and most developed medical services to the citizens and residents of Qatar through healthcare projects that it is implementing, and which are considered an valuable addition to the healthcare sector in Qatar. These projects include a wide range of primary healthcare centres covering all parts of the country, both in Doha and in external areas.

The Public Works Authority implements a number of hospitals projects such as the Communicable Diseases Unit at Rumailah Hospital, Hamad Medical City’s Simulation Centre, as well as other projects that would enhance the healthcare and medical research sector and would benefit citizens and residents, as they will include the most advanced medical equipment and technologies to enable healthcare employees to provide the best health services required.

It is worth mentioning that the Public Works Authority recently completed the construction and equipping works of the three hospitals of Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City hospitals project, which is one of the most prominent healthcare sector projects. The hospitals stretch over a build-up area of 227,000 m2, and they include 559 beds distributed over the three buildings namely, the Ambulatory Care Centre, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, and the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre.

Each of the three hospitals was built according to highest specifications and international standards with regard to best construction materials used, paint colours and all the requirements and standards that would enhance the sustainability of the building and provide a comfortable indoor environment for patients, medical staff and visitors. The project also includes the main kitchen of Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City’s hospitals with a daily capacity of 8000 meals, in addition to pharmacy robotic systems that transfer and prepare medications automatically for various sections.

The Public Works Authority also completed the construction and equipping works of the additional operation rooms building project at Hamad General Hospital, which includes 20 operating rooms, 17 of which are general operation rooms, and three are for operation with diagnostic devices. This is in addition to the Intensive Care Unit for accidents, recovery unit, Intensive Care Units for Surgery, surgery preparation units and associated services, as well as a multi-storey parking tower to accommodate around 800 vehicles. The Surgery Building also includes a services building for project operation and the provision of water as well as medical gasses networks. In addition to two helicopter landing pads connected to the new Surgery Building to transfer emergency cases, which is directly connected to the operating rooms and the Intensive Care Unit for accidents.

The new Surgery Building is equipped with advanced systems that are used for the first time in the operating rooms in Qatar, making it one of the leading countries to use these techniques, such as the ability to use radiography during surgical procedures to ensure the success of the surgical intervention and contain or avoid complications.
