The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal” announces that a two-month ramp closure will be in place at the eastern side of Al Sakhama Interchange on Al Shamal Road on Thursday 25 August 2016. Commuters, coming from Doha towards the northern areas using B-Ramp of Al Sakhama Interchange, will be diverted to the western side of the North Road Corridor to travel through a dual two-lane service road to Umm Al Amad Interchange to access Al Shamal Road, as shown on the attached map.
The detour is required to facilitate the construction of a new signal-controlled junction on the eastern side of the Al Sakhama Interchange. Ashghal will place directional and advisory signage, requesting that all road users abide by the speed limits in place along the diversions and observe all traffic signs and instructions to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users. The upgrade of Al Sakhama Interchange comes as part of the North Corridor Enhancement project, including the construction of service roads along the North Road, starting from Al Duhail Interchange, northern Doha, to Al Shamal city, north of Qatar.
The project, designed to enhance the connection with the new development projects near the highway, also comprises the construction of two new interchanges in Izghawa and Umm Salal Mohammed areas, in addition to other improvements to three existing interchanges, including Al Sakahma Interchange and Al Kaaban Interchange. Al Khor Road will also be upgraded with a link road provided between the North Road and Umm Birkah Road, as well. A cycle path will be constructed along the North Road. It is also worth noting that the contractor of the North Road enhancement project has achieved over 10 million man hours without Loss Time Injury.
