The new intersection, installed by Ashghal, is served as a key access point linking the neighbouring local areas, located east and west of Al Shamal Road.
Umm Salal Mohammed Interchange is composed of two separate levels, including a dual main bridge with two lanes in each direction and an additional lane for turning towards the ramps, and two light signals. The junction also features four on-and-off ramps –the northern ramps opened today whilst the southern ramps are still underway. The intersection is a key connection for the residents in the vital and jammed neighbourhood of Umm Salal Mohammed. The junction will reduce congestion and cut travel times as it will provide smooth flowing traffic from and into Al Shamal Road, skipping the jam at Al Kheesa Interchange and allowing for better access between the service roads and the North Road.
Umm Salal Mohammed is the third construction opened by Ashghal as part of the North Road Corridor Enhancement Project within two weeks; Ashghal had already delivered both of Izghawa Interchange and the bridge linking Al Huwaila road to the North Road on 22 October, 2016. Also, the 5 km Al Khor Link Road (from Al Shamal Road to Ras Laffan Roundabout at Al Khor) had opened to traffic after being upgraded into dual three lanes.
