As part of its efforts to develop the roads network in Doha, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ commences works in phase I of Ali Bin Abi Talib Street development on Friday 27 January 2017.

This project is part of phase six of a project to develop roads and roundabouts in various areas in greater Doha. Phase I of Ali Bin Abi Talib Street development includes converting Al Maahed and Al Qafila roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections. The project also includes the development of Ali Bin Abi Talib Street, which connects C-Ring and D-Ring roads, to include three lanes and a service road in each direction. This is in addition to developing the infrastructure such as stormwater drainage network, street lighting, landscaping, and installing interlock while protecting existing utilities.

The project also comprises the development of Al Maahed Street in Slata and Al Qafila Street which connects Salwa Road and Ali Bin Abi Talib Street. Works include widening the mentioned streets to two lanes in each direction to enhance traffic capacity. During project works, two lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction on Ali Bin Abi Talib Street. The right lanes will be closed for those coming from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street towards Al Maahed Street and for those turning left from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street onto Al Maahed Street. Road users would be able to use Al Qafila Roundabout as an alternative as shown in the attached map.

Also the right lane will be closed for those coming from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street towards Al Qafila Street while keeping Al Qafila Street open from Salwa Road towards Ali Bin Abi Talib Street as shown in the attached map. Access roads to residential buildings and business institutes will remain open throughout the project period. Ashghal has installed signboards onsite to alert drivers during work period. All phases of developing Ali Bin Abi Talib Street are expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2017. Ashghal requests all road users to abide by the speed limits, and follow the road signs to ensure their and others safety. This project is part of a series of projects that Ashghal is implementing to improve the road network in all areas, including converting roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections and widening some streets to increase their capacity.
