Ashghal signs three new construction contracts for citizens’ sub-divisions development projects

As part of Ashghal’s commitment to implement its plan to deliver infrastructure projects for citizens’ sub-divisions within five years, which was announced during a joint roundtable between Ashghal and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa” in March 2017, the Public Works Authority signed three new construction contracts for citizens’ sub-divisions development projects, with a total value of approximately 815 million Qatari Riyal, to serve 1672 land plots.

H.E. Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority, signed the new contracts with the representatives of contracting companies during a press conference held today, Tuesday 20 June 2017, in the presence of H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa”, Eng. Abdulla Hamad Al Attiyah, Assistant President of the Public Works Authority, Eng. Mohammed Masoud Al Marri, Director of Infrastructure Affairs, and Eng. Saoud Ali Al Tamimi, Manager of Roads Projects Department, a number of managers from the concerned departments at Ashghal, and representatives from the contracting companies.

On this occasion, H.E. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi said that signing the new contracts is a continuation of Ashghal's efforts in implementing projects that provide facilities and infrastructure for citizens’ sub-divisions through cooperation and coordination with Kahramaa and all concerned authorities in the country, in line with the directives of H.E. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Minister of Municipality and Environment, and the great importance Qatar attaches to this field.

Ashghal President added: "Ashghal is committed to the planned schedule for completing the infrastructure of citizens' sub-divisions; being one of our top priorities, through opening for tender Infrastructure projects for 10,400 land plot over three years, to be completed in five years.” The first contract included the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Al Froosh/Al Kharaitiyat (Package 1), which was awarded to Bin Omran Trading & Contracting Company at a value of more than QR 265 million. The project will serve 619 land plots, and will include the construction of a 18 km local roads network and a 33 km sewage network.

The second contract included the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Rawdat Egdaim and Izghawa (Package 1), which was also awarded to Bin Omran Trading and Contracting Company at a value of more than QR 243 million. The project will serve 592 land plots, and will provide a 19.8 km local roads network and a 19.5 km sewage network. The third contract included the Roads and Development Project in North of Al Nassiriya (Package 2), which was awarded to the joint venture of "Boom Construction Company" and "Lotus Contracting Company" at a value of more than QR 306 million. The project will serve 461 land plots, and will provide a 25 km local roads network and a 27 km sewage network.

The three new projects will commence in July and are expected to be completed in Q2, 2019. The projects will provide main infrastructure facilities for the mentioned areas, including roads, sewage networks, street lighting, electricity and water networks, and the infrastructure needed for the provision of communications networks in the future. It is worth mentioning that the Public Works Authority is currently implementing two roads and infrastructure development projects for government residential divisions in Al Mashaf West and AlWukair North. The two projects are valued at more than QR 1.2 billion, and include a total of 1829 land plots. Works are completed for about 500 land plots, while works for the rest of the sub-divisions are being implemented according to the planned schedule in order to deliver both projects before the end of the current year.

The Roads and Infrastructure Development project in Al Mashaf West (Package 3) is 91% complete so far. The project, which includes 1,886 land plots, transform Al Mashaf West area into a sustainable residential area that can accommodate the future population growth. The project includes the construction of a local roads network with a total length of 70 km, which includes 92 main and local streets. In addition to the construction of 13 signalised intersections of which 3 are major interchanges, and the provision of street lighting. The project also includes the construction of drainage networks, and electricity, water, and communications networks.

The Roads and Infrastructure project for Citizens Sub-Divisions in Al Wukair North is 76% complete so far. The project, which serves 643 land plots, includes the construction of a total of 23 km of roads, and 8 signal-controlled intersections, in addition to provision of street lighting. The project also includes the construction of a drainage network, and electricity, water, and communications networks. Ashghal recently completed two grading projects including 4,145 land plots, and grading works will commence soon in Smeisma and West Al Khor / Al Egda.

It should be noted that all of the mentioned projects are part of Ashghal’s Local Areas Infrastructure Programme, which includes 13 projects for government residential divisions in different areas. Those projects include 10,400 land plots, and it is planned that infrastructure facilities will be completed to serve 1303, 2511, 2487 and 2270 land plots in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively.
