The Public Works Authority, ‘Ashghal’, announces that it will need to make changes to existing traffic patterns on the Temporary Truck Route to open a 4 kilometre section of the New Orbital Highway and continue construction of Khuwaiteem Interchange.
The proposed road change, which will occur approximately 50 kilometres south west of Doha, has been designed in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic. It will be implemented on Thursday 7 September and is expected to be in operation until Khuwaiteem Interchange is opened for public use in early 2018. To enable the construction of the multi-level, free-flowing Khuwaiteem Interchange, Ashghal advises that it will need to close the existing temporary junction between the New Orbital Highway and the road that extends from Hamad Port. As shown on the attached map, motorists and truck drivers planning to travel to Salwa Road or Dukhan Highway will have two alternatives to arrive at their destination.
Using new 4 kilometre section of Orbital Highway
Road users travelling from Hamad Port to Salwa Road or Dukhan Highway are advised to continue straight over Hamad Port Interchange towards the New Orbital Highway. After reaching the existing temporary junction, road users will be required to turn left towards Mesaieed and travel for a distance of 2.5 kilometres before making a U-turn at the first designated point and heading directly north on the New Orbital Highway towards Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway.
Using Hamad Port Road and G Ring Road
Road users travelling from Hamad Port to Salwa Road or Dukhan Highway are also able to use the recently opened Hamad Port Road and the G Ring Road to reach their destination. Motorists and truck drivers who wish to use Hamad Port Road are advised to exit right onto Mesaieed Road towards Al Wakra. At the first roundabout, road users should turn left onto Hamad Port Road and travel straight towards Aba Seleel Interchange on the G Ring Road. At Aba Seleel Interchange, road users are advised to follow road signage and access the correct flyover to travel west on the G Ring Road towards the New Orbital Highway.
Ashghal advises road users that it will increase the number of lanes on the new 4 kilometre section of the New Orbital Highway from two to three lanes to cater for the higher volume of traffic leaving Hamad Port each day. The Public Works Authority will install road signs advising motorists of the closure. ‘Ashghal’ requests all road users to abide by the speed limit, which remains at 80 kph, and follow road signs to ensure their safety.
