The project is one of the key projects implemented by Ashghal as part of its master plan to upgrade Qatar’s drainage network, the project will collect and discharge the ground and storm water thus decreasing the surface water levels. This will in turn contribute to the reduction of pumping costs and to the disposal of groundwater in construction projects around the country and preserve the foundations of buildings.

The length of the main tunnel, which runs under the F-Ring Road, is about 10 kilometers at a depth of about 30 meters below the surface, in addition to nine sub-tunnels with a total length of about 2 kilometers. The main tunnel will   link the existing and planned drainage networks in the areas that traverse through, and will collects and discharge surface water from approximately 170 km² of catchment area.
