After the “Designs For Life” winners announcement in association with Virgina Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUarts-Qatar), Le Mirage Real Estate, Qatar’s leading real estate development and property management company, successfully inducted a one-month summer internship for the two second place winners of the design challenge – Arij Mohamed and Hagar W. Farag.
The ‘Designs for Life’ competition, part of Le Mirage’s community and education outreach program, provided VCUarts-Qatar third year interior design students a great platform to put their skills and design knowledge to good use. As part of the competition, students were tasked to design interiors for a two-bedroom apartment in Le Mirage City Walk taking into consideration three key elements: designing for people with universal needs, including elements of the local culture and imbibing principles of sustainable design.
On this occasion, Mr. Amer Fares, CEO of Sharaka Holdings, the parent company of Le Mirage Real Estate, said: “It was an exhilarating journey for us as we got to meet and induct such talented students who seem ready to bring out the best in their future workplaces. Our partnership with Virgina Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUarts-Qatar) has been one of the most fruitful ones and we would like to congratulate the experienced faculty who have groomed their students so well that they can integrate themselves into an architectural firm and begin to contribute from day one with their creative designs, enthusiasm and talent.
On his part, Dr. Donald N. Baker, Dean of VCUarts Qatar, said, “We are grateful to Le Mirage Real Estate’s team for initiating the “Designs For Life” project. It has been a great success. On winning the coveted internship, Ms. Hagar W. Farag, said, “We were introduced around the office and everyone was really friendly and very warm. We were given work immediately and given sufficient time to conceptualize the work. We worked on three different projects in such a short timeframe. Through this internship, we were introduced to several perspectives of interior design, which offered us a sneak peek into our future career progression and how can we be different in design. We also learned the nuances of good design and the detailing that comes with it.” Ms. Arij Mohamed said, “We would like to thank Le Mirage Real Estate for having us. It’s a really healthy work environment and we learnt a lot through this experience.”
Through such interactive educational platforms, Le Mirage Real Estate intends to offer GenX design students many more opportunities to experience the work patterns of architects and prepare themselves for a future full of immense possibilities. Through such endeavors Le Mirage Real Estate seeks to enlighten participants with practical details of designing sustainable residential properties in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
