Ashghal: Completion of the Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City Hospitals

The Public Works Authority announced the completion of construction and equipping works of the Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City Hospitals. The project includes three buildings, the Ambulatory Care Centre, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute and the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre. Ashghal also completed examinations, inspections, and testing operation procedures for all of the technical and electromechanical systems in preparation of handing over to the Ministry of Public Health.

On this occasion, the authority organised a site visit, in which local media representatives where invited to get briefed on the design, building specifications and the advanced equipping works, which were used in the three buildings of the project. During the visit Eng. Abdulmohsin Hassan Al-Rashid, Head of Health Projects in the Buildings Project Management Department, provided the visitors with a detailed explanation on the buildings, their design, sections and construction specifications.

Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City new hospitals project is one of the most prominent healthcare sector projects, their benefits will be positively reflected on the efficiency of health care services offered to citizens and residents of the State of Qatar. The new hospitals stretch over a build-up area of 227,000 m2, and they include 559 beds distributed over the three buildings including, the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute and the Ambulatory Care Centre.

Each of the three hospitals was built according to highest specifications and international standards with regard to best construction materials used, paint colours and all the requirements and standards that would enhance the sustainability of the building and provide a comfortable indoor environment for patients, medical staff and visitors. The project also includes the main kitchen of Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City’s hospitals with a daily capacity of 8000 meals, in addition to pharmacy robotic systems that transfer and prepare medications automatically for various sections.

 

Overview of the three buildings:

1. Ambulatory Care Centre:

The building includes 116 beds and 14 operating theatres with all major recovery rooms and support. The operating theatres include an integrated system through screens that are connected with all medical and non-medical systems in the room. The building also has an extensive radiology and examinations suites and treatment rooms, in addition to 12 examination rooms for ENT audiology. It is worth mentioning that Qatar National Diabetes Centre is located in this building on an area of 3,400 m2 of total build-up area, has more than 30 examination rooms and more than 50 short-stay rooms.

This state-of-the-art facility will provide a range of clinic services including diagnosis, observation and treatment for adult outpatients who does not require an overnight admission. The centre aims to accommodate cases that require minor surgery, to eliminate the need of using hospital sections and operating theatres allocated for major surgical operations.

2. Qatar Rehabilitation Institute:

The Institute is built on an area of approximately 38,000 m2, it includes 200 beds, and one adult hydrotherapy suite which is considered to be one of the most advanced hydrotherapy suites in the Gulf region. The project was also equipped with a “Patient Lift” system across the whole centre that helps patient not able to move, through automated equipment hung from the ceiling that carries patients to help them stand up and move.

The building also includes outpatient clinics covering occupational therapy, prosthesis, organ transplantation and inpatient therapy support. The outpatient physical therapy has 12 treatment rooms, 4 gyms, group therapy room and a main suite for education and support services. The main laboratory is also located in this building. This hospital will offer a wide range of specialised services, including physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy, prosthetics and orthotics.

3. Women’s Wellness and Research Centre:

The centre is built over an area of 72,000 m2, it includes 190 beds and 53 neonatal intensive care cots. The centre also has 7 operating theatres, 21 delivery rooms and 60 outpatient examination rooms. The new centre includes a full accident and emergency department with a full series of rooms for C-section, triage, ultrasound, treatment rooms and rooms for emergency deliveries.
