The Public Works Authority, ‘Ashghal’, will commence constructing a new multi-level interchange on the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route project aimed at upgrading the existing roundabout.
In coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, new routes for the four loops will be available on Sunday, 19 March, 2017 until the required revamp comes to a close. The new multi-level interchange will be opened for public use in 2018 and will increase the existing road capacity from three lanes to five lanes in each direction while simultaneously enhancing travel efficiency to Al Shamal, Al Ruwais, Lusail and Salwa Road. Road users planning to travel from Lusail to Doha will need to drive west across the bridge towards Salwa Road, make a U-turn at the first roundabout, before taking the right turn exit towards Doha.
Road users planning to travel from Salwa Road to Al Ruwais will need to drive east across the bridge towards Lusail, make a U-turn at the first roundabout, before taking the right turn exit towards Al Ruwais. Ashghal advises that there will be no other changes to the existing travel routes between Doha, Al Ruwais, Lusail and Salwa Road, and no reduction in the number of lanes on Shamal Road or the Temporary Truck Route. Ashghal will install road signs providing motorists with advance notice of the new road layout. The Public Works Authority requests all road users to abide by the new speed limit, which has been reduced from 120 kph to 80 kph, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
