The municipalities of Wakrah, Rayyan and Doha carried over their vigor in construction activities into December, with Wakrah having issued the maximum number of building permits ” 209.
Wakrah, which accounted for 30 percent of all building permits issued in December, recorded a month-on-month jump of 17 percent in the number of permits issued last month. It is followed by Rayyan with 161 permits (23 percent) and Doha with 131 (19 percent) permits. Al Da'ayen issued 88 permits (13 percent), Umm Slal 51 (7 percent), Al Khor 28 (4 percent), Al Sheehaniya 26 (4 percent) and Al Shamal seven permits (1 percent) in December.
Altogether, 701 permits were issued last month. In terms of the type of permits issued, the report said new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 64 percent (446 permits) of all the permits issued in December. Permits of additions constituted 34 percent (238 permits), while that for fencing accounted for 2 percent (17 permits). Of the permits issued for new buildings, 49 percent (143 permits) were for villas, 40 percent (118 permits) were for dwellings of housing loans and 7 percent (19 permits) were for other residential buildings.
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits issued in December, accounting for 47 percent (73 permits). They were followed by industrial buildings with 29 percent (45 permits), government buildings with 19 percent (30 permits) and mosques with four percent (six permits). Comparing the number of permits issued in December 2017 with those issued in November, the report noted a general decrease of 16 percent.
The decline was noted prominently in the municipalities of Al Shamal (46 percent), Al Shahaniya (40 percent), Al Da'ayen (35 percent), Doha (28 percent), Al Khor (26 percent) and Rayyan (17 percent). Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator of the performance of the construction sector, which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
